Hawker Richardson Newsletter September 2024
Welcome to the third edition of the Hawker Richardson newsletter for 2024.
We kicked off the quarter by overcoming the June winter chill at Electronex 2024 in Sydney, which proved to be a resounding success with an impressive turnout of exhibitors and attendees. If you missed out, visit us at Land Forces this September in Melbourne.
In this issue, we look at new developments in reflow soldering technology and highlight the four key advantages of the next-generation Heller MK7 reflow oven. Vision Engineering also released the new LVC400 system for measuring components.Ā
Elsewhere, we investigate the importance of ESD in SMT production and shine a spotlight on assembly solutions.
See you at Land Forces, stand J39 at the MCEC, September 11 – 13. Online registrations close on September 6th.

Land Forces 2024
Do you design products or are you a manager, engineer, or decision-maker involved in manufacturing for defence industries? This is your opportunity to attend Australia’s leading defence industry event, where the Army and Defence Force connect with industry leaders to communicate their needs and capability requirements.
See us at stand J039 where we showcase inspection and rework equipment from Vision Engineering. These award-winning inspection solutions are a must-see for manufacturers and assemblers across various industries including electronics, automotive, aviation and general manufacturing.
Introducing the LVC Measuring System
The LVC Measuring System is a measuring system that allows you to measure components and features, such as machined, turned, injection moulded parts within the field-of-view (FOV). Utilising the larger stage configuration on the 400 provides the ability to measure multiple components / features in one sequence.
The Unsung Heroes - Part 2
As assembly processes increasingly embrace automation, and technologies like robotics become integral, itās important not to forget the unsung heroes that keep day-to-day assembly running smoothly.Ā The shift towards automation and advanced manufacturing techniques has brought numerous benefits, including increased efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness. However, this transition often overshadows the contributions of traditional assembly techniques and tools, which still play a crucial role in many manufacturing processes.
Heller MK7: 4 Key Enhancements
Heller Industries, the pioneers of convection reflow soldering since the 1980s, continue to make advancements in both areas. The next generation MK7 series represents an evolution in design and technology, offering a new look low-height oven that makes it easier to see across the production floor. This eco-friendly series boasts reduced nitrogen consumption and enhanced energy and flux management features compared to the MK5 series. Check out the new game-changing benefits of the MK7.
Electric Screwdriver - Torque Solutions
Many critical applications rely on printed circuit boards. Mounting a PCB inside a jet engine, pacemaker, or natural gas turbine can be disastrous if a screw becomes loose. If procedures are not in place to ensure each fastener is torqued correctly, the failure rate of these products will increase, and a loss of profits and productivity will follow. Therefore, it is imperative that torque control is a priority for all manufacturing processes that involve mounting PCBs.
Minimising ESD in SMT Production
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) in electronic production is a silent threat that causes irreversible damage to products. OEM and CEMs must implement comprehensive strategies to mitigate ESD losses in the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production environment. This is essential to avoid costly downtime, financial losses, and damage to their reputation for reliability.
