Seho Start Selective Solder Machine

Ideal for those just entering in automated soldering, the StartSelect is the perfect plug-and-produce selective soldering system. With a footprint of only 2.5 m2, the StartSelective provides maximum quality and reproducibility of soldering results for assemblies up to 20 “ x 20 “. While all process steps are fully automated and monitored, loading and unloading of assemblies is done manually.

Optimised soldering area with non-wetted mini-wave solder nozzles, featuring a 7 ° soldering angle. The nozzles convince with stable and reproducible flow properties, resulting in high soldering quality. Even difficult geometries can be soldered easily. Moreover, non-wetted solder nozzles are maintenance-free and feature a nearly unlimited lifetime, thus avoiding follow-up costs.

FAQs: Your Seho Start Selective Solder Machine Questions Answered

1. What PCB / assembly size can the Seho Start handle?

The StartSelective supports assemblies up to 508 × 508 mm (20″ × 20″).

2. What is the floor space (footprint) requirement and how does maintenance / set-up access work?

The machine needs about 2.5 m² footprint. Operation is from the front; all set-up and maintenance can be done from the right side of the unit for easier access.

3. What soldering and fluxing features are included?
  • It uses a precise micro drop-jet fluxer with automatic function control.
  • Incorporates non-wetted mini-wave solder nozzles with a 7° soldering angle. These nozzles are almost maintenance-free with a long service life.
4. How is preheating handled?

The machine includes bottom-side pulsar preheaters (activated in groups of two) and temperature-controlled top-side IR preheaters to ensure good heat distribution before soldering.

5. What level of process automation and programmability is available?
  • All process steps are fully automated and monitored.
  • Programming is done offline at any PC workstation, meaning the machine can remain in production while new programs are developed.
6. What are the utility requirements (power, nitrogen, exhaust)?
  • Power: European standard 230/400 V, 3-phase + neutral + earth; US optional version 3×208 V, 60 Hz. Approximate power rating ~ 13 kW.
  • Nitrogen: Minimum 4 bar pressure, recommended quality 5.0, consumption approx. 1.5-2.0 m³/h.
  • Exhaust: One 150 mm stack, exhaust volume ~ 150 m³/h.
7. What is the machine’s size and weight, and does it require special installation considerations?

The StartSelective measures 2202 × 1350 × 1629 mm (length × width × height) and weighs 475 kg. Installation needs to accommodate space, support floor loading, exhaust ducting, and utility connections.

8. What are the benefits versus trade-offs when using the Seho Start for selective soldering?

Benefits:

  • Non-wetted mini-wave nozzles reduce maintenance and extend nozzle life, lowering operating costs.
  • High precision, reproducibility, and good performance even with difficult geometries thanks to the 7° soldering angle and robust preheating.
  • Fully automated process control and offline programming improves uptime and flexibility.

Trade-offs / Considerations:

  • Manual loading/unloading of assemblies — requires operator intervention, which can be a bottleneck for high volume.
  • Requires nitrogen supply of certain purity and pressure, and exhaust infrastructure.
  • Upfront cost for feature set (mini-wave nozzles, pulsar preheaters, fluxer, etc.). Must ensure ROI via improved quality or reduced defects.
  • For very large or heavy boards, the preheating zones and top-IR heating may require tuning to avoid thermal stress or warpage.
9. Does Hawker Richardson supply and support the SEHO Start Selective in Australia and New Zealand?

As an authorised SEHO partner, Hawker Richardson supplies the standalone SEHO Start Selective machine across Australia and New Zealand. We provide on-site installation, training, servicing and technical support, with coverage spanning Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Auckland, and Christchurch, and stock commonly used spare parts for fast servicing and minimal downtime.
