SEHO Power Selective Soldering System

The SEHO Power Selective soldering system offers exceptional flexibility and productivity. The SEHO Power Selective can be adapted to almost any manufacturing environment, whether as an inline or stand-alone solution.

Three different soldering processes can be combined in just one system and subsequent process steps such as cooling, selective brushing and AOI can also be integrated. And all this on only 5.5 square meters.

The innovative design can incorporate the PowerVision AOI which can be configured as needed i.e., for component placement inspection in front of a wave or a selective soldering machine, or for solder joint inspection after wave or selective soldering processes or as a combination of both inspection tasks, integrated into the same module to save space.

Inspect for soldering defects like incomplete solder joints, solder bridges or solder balls, AND it can read and process product IDs!

FAQs: Your SEHO Power Selective Soldering System Questions Answered

1. What board / carrier sizes can the SEHO PowerSelective handle?

It supports boards or carriers up to 500 × 500 mm (≈ 19.68″ × 19.68″).

2. What soldering processes are supported, and can multiple processes be combined?

The system can perform mini-wave soldering, dip soldering, or conventional wave soldering. Up to two soldering units can be integrated to cover these different processes in one machine.

3. How precise is the positioning (repeatability) of the soldering head / gripper system?

It features a high-precision double-portal axis system with servo drives, offering repeatability of about ± 0.1 mm.

4. What kind of nozzle / wave control features does it have?
  • It supports wetted or non-wetted solder nozzles and multi-nozzle tools.
  • It includes touch-less wave height control and, optionally, automatic solder level control.
5. Does it support nitrogen inertion and how much nitrogen is needed?

Yes, the PowerSelective has controlled nitrogen inertion. Typical nitrogen consumption (for a single nozzle) is approximately 1.5-2.0 m³/h, at nitrogen supply pressure around 4-8 bar.

6. What options are there for integrating preheating, cooling, and inspection / AOI functions?
  • Preheating options include quartz or pulsar heating (integrated or in separate preheat module), optional top side heating in the carrier or preheat area, convection heating cassette.
  • Cooling and optional selective brushing can be added.
  • The system can be equipped with a built-in AOI module (PowerVision) for component placement inspection, solder joint inspection, or both; also supports flux quantity monitoring.
7. What are the utility / installation requirements (power, exhaust, compressed air)?
  • Voltage: 230/400 V (three-phase + neutral + earth) or 3×208 V-60 Hz in some regions.
  • Compressed air: minimum ~ 6 bar for gripper, nozzle, etc.
  • Nitrogen supply: ~ 4-8 bar with quality ~5.0 recommended.
  • Exhaust: approximately 500-600 m³/h depending on configuration.
8. What are the main benefits vs what trade-offs or limitations should be considered?

Benefits:

  • Very flexible: multiple soldering styles in one system, modular and can be adapted (inline or stand-alone).
  • High precision & repeatability, and fast change-over (quick-change nozzles) to support high-mix manufacturing.
  • Integrated AOI and flux monitoring enhance process control and reduce defects.

Trade-offs / Limitations:

  • Higher initial capital cost compared to simpler selective soldering machines or hand soldering.
  • Requires good infrastructure (nitrogen supply, exhaust, precise calibration, quality nozzles) to achieve optimal performance.
  • For extremely large boards or very high throughput of simple assemblies, specialized wave or dedicated inline selective lines might still be faster.
  • Maintenance of solder pots, nozzles, grippers, and AOI optics must be done regularly to maintain performance.
