A machine not running, whether it’s broken down or being changed over to another job, comes at a cost to businesses.
In some cases, operators can take up to 8 hours to change over a product on a line. This costly problem can be eliminated by investing in the right equipment for your operation.
Hawker Richardson has partnered with Yamaha for over 20 years. One of the key reasons we recommend Yamaha is because they have been committed to engineering machines that eliminate production downtime, always innovating and discovering new technology to ensure the customer is as productive as possible, particularly as production demands grow, year after year. As we move towards Industry 4.0, Yamaha delivers high-accuracy, high-speed, high-quality and flexible surface-mount assembly, taking electronics production to the next level.
How Do Yamaha SMT Products Reduce Downtime?
Auto Loading Feeder
The biggest improvement in line productivity is the introduction of the Yamaha Auto Loading Feeder (ZS-ALF). This feeder allows the addition of a second reel to supply in the same feeder at any time during operation. The ALF design removes any need for splicing materials or operators with good splicing skills, while reducing tape waste and paper dust particles. The ALF also reduces machine downtime, increases line efficiency, and boosts placement quality.
Non-Stop Feeder Carriage Exchange System
Previously, the machine had to be stopped when removing the feeder carriage exchange to ensure safety. Now, Yamaha has installed a sliding shutter cover over the pickup area of the opening that is created when the carriage is removed. The shutter automatically closes when the carriage is removed, eliminating the need to stop the machine for carriage replacement and thus improving machine operating rate. Software Operators are able to reap many benefits, including reducing downtime, by using Yamaha’s Y.FacT Software. A new feature is the ability to set up a job onto feeder carts, offline, while the machine is still running.
Yamaha Y.FacT Software Overview
Yamaha’s S-Tools ensures fast and correct first-time setup and changeover. A significant feature is the ‘Part Remain Counter’, that monitors the remaining number of components, and requests before running out of components. This reduces machine downtime by preparing components beforehand.
Yamaha’s M-Tools Features
With feeder carts, extra feeders and the addition of the Yamaha Smart Factory Software, you can significantly minimise machine downtime during product changeovers.
