i-PULSE F3 Feeder Finger

The Feeder Finger is an accessory for Yamaha’s i-PULSE F3 electronic feeders that lets you run “cut tape” sections (short strips) without needing splices or leader/trailer modifications. It simplifies feeder setup, reduces changeover time, and avoids issues caused by cover-tape jams.

Because it eliminates splicing and allows loading tape in less than 5 seconds (using the supplied tape push tool), setup times can be reduced by up to 50%.

It supports cut tape strips as short as 3 inches (≈ 76 mm). That means even very short pull-offs or cut strips can be used without recycling into full reels or splicing.

It is designed for 8 mm tape width (8 mm carrier tape, 2.5 mm tape depth feeder type). It works with paper-only carrier tape in many cases.

It is capable of working with small SMD components — typical use covers from 0201 and larger (such as 1206). Because the feeder finger reduces tape alignment errors, it helps in maintaining precision for those small component sizes.

The product is manufactured from aircraft-grade aluminium, ensuring strength and durability over long usage. It is tested under field conditions to ensure it withstands repeated usage in production environments.

Installation is plug-and-play. You “feed” the tape through the feeder using the supplied tape push tool. Once set up, it can be loaded/unloaded in seconds, with minimal training.

While the Feeder Finger improves speed, reduces the need for tape leaders/splices, and avoids cover tape jams, limitations include: only supported in certain widths (e.g. 8 mm), may not be usable for tape types/materials untested (e.g. some plastic cover tapes vs paper), and still requires operator discipline in loading short strips accurately. Also, very short strips under certain lengths may pose risk of feeding issues if not handled carefully.
