Scienscope Xspection 3000 PCB X-Ray Inspection Machine

The Scienscope Xspection 3000 is a high-resolution circuit board X-ray machine designed for accurate defect detection and quality assurance in SMT manufacturing. Using a single closed tube and advanced flat panel detector, it delivers clear, detailed images for PCB X-ray inspection, including solder joint analysis and BGA void inspection.

Available in two versions, the Standard model offers a 100kV, 5µm X-ray source, while the Premium version features a more powerful 130kV tube, larger detector, and finer pixel size for improved visibility in dense or multilayer boards.

Software tools include CNC programmable inspection, fiducial recognition, void percentage calculation, and BGA measurement core functions expected in modern PCB X-ray inspection machines. Optional barcode input, offline programming, and repair station capabilities further expand inspection efficiency.

Compact, lead-shielded, and Windows 11 ready, the Xspection 3000 is ideal for batch inspection, high-mix builds, and electronics manufacturers needing reliable, non-inline X-ray analysis.

FAQs: Your Scienscope Xspection 3000 PCB X-Ray Inspection Machine Questions Answered

1. What are the main hardware variants of the Xspection 3000, and what’s the difference?

The Xspection 3000 comes in two main variants: Standard (100 kV) and Premium (130 kV) closed tube micro-focus X-ray sources. The Premium version gives more power and better penetration for denser or more complex assemblies

2. What is the maximum board size / inspection area that the machine supports?

It supports PCBs up to 650 x 500 mm (≈ 25″ x 20″) in X and Y axes.

3. What is the resolution and spot size of the X-ray tube?

The system offers spot sizes down to 5 µm. Pixel sizes / detector resolution depend on the variant: ~85 µm pixel size for the standard, and ~49 µm for the Premium model.

4. Does the Xspection 3000 support angled or oblique inspection, and how flexible is its tilt / rotation?

Yes — standard tilt is up to 45°, with an optional tilt up to 70°. Also, a 360° rotating stage/table is optionally available for more flexible viewing angles.

5. What software / defect detection tools are included to help with quality assurance?

Key software features include:

  • Automated void % calculation (better background definition) for detecting gaps/bubbles in solder or TH fill.
  • Enhanced BGA measuring / tools to reduce false alarms.
  • Fiducial recognition.
  • Mapping cameras (optical colour cameras) to support hybrid inspection and improve the overlay / alignment.
6. What is the physical size, weight, and power requirements of the Xspection 3000?
  • Footprint / Dimensions: ~ 1510 x 1510 x 1870 mm, including light tower concerned.
  • Weight: ~ 1,550 kg for standard, more (~1,625 kg) if extra lead shielding is fitted.
  • Power: AC 110-240 V, 50/60 Hz.
7. What defects or applications is this machine particularly good for?

Xray inspection system precision suited for detecting internal defects not visible in optical inspection, including:

  • Voids in solder joints and TH barrel fill issues
  • Multilayer PCB issues (internal layer defects, misalignments)
  • Semiconductor and BGA package inspection to check solder quality under the package
8. What trade-offs or limitations should someone consider when integrating this into their production or QA process?
  • Throughput vs resolution / depth: high resolution or dense board inspection (especially with tilt or 70° options) may slow inspection cycles.
  • Footprint and infrastructure: requires substantial floor space, weight load, and power; possible facility upgrades might be needed.
  • Cost: Premium version, optional features (tilt, extra cameras, rotating stage, shielding) increase CAPEX.
  • Operator training: high capability demands correct setup, calibration, interpreting images, setting thresholds to avoid false positives/negatives.
