FAQs: Your Vision Engineering DRV-Z1 Digital 3D Imaging System Questions Answered

1. What is the magnification range of the DRV-Z1, and how much “zoom” flexibility does it offer?

The DRV-Z1 offers an optical zoom ratio of 10x, with objective lens options giving approx. 6.1× up to 93× magnification. There’s also 2× digital zoom available.

2. What field of view and working distance can an operator expect at different magnifications?
  • With the 0.33× lens, the working distance is approx. 182 mm and you get a large field of view (about 65 × 37 mm) at minimum zoom.
  • Higher magnification reduces field of view: with, for example, the 0.5× lens at high zoom, you see smaller areas (~ 43 × 24 mm) but with much greater detail.
3. Do I need special glasses or headgear to view the 3D image?

No. The DRV-Z1 produces full stereoscopic 3D HD images without any special glasses or goggles. The 3D effect floats in front of your eyes using patented vision technology.

4. What image capture and connectivity options are built in?

The DRV-Z1 supports:

  • USB2 for image capture to a USB drive.
  • HDMI outputs to connect to external monitors or to link multiple DRV-Z1 units.
  • Software options for on-screen measurement, annotation, and remote view via compatible software (e.g. ViPlus, DimensionOne, DimensionTwo).
5. How does the DRV-Z1 improve ergonomics and comfort for inspection tasks?
  • Head movement is free (no need to stay fixed), thanks to its optical design.
  • It has a counterbalanced stand with 150 mm vertical travel so operators can adjust height for more comfortable posture.
  • Because no glasses are required and the system offers a large field of view, it reduces eye strain and fatigue during longer inspection or repair tasks.
6. What version / options of bases and illumination are available, especially for different sample types?
  • There are Short Base and Long Base options. The Long Base can include sub-stage (transmitted) illumination for translucent / thin samples.
  • The subject plate in the Long Base is reversible (black / white background) to optimise contrast depending on the part being inspected.
7. What are the trade-offs or limitations of DRV-Z1 I should know before purchase?
  • Though digital zoom helps, resolution and image clarity ultimately depend on optical magnification; at very high zooms, field of view becomes quite small.
  • Illumination options may affect visibility on very reflective, transparent, or strongly textured surfaces: choosing the right lighting / base option is important.
  • Size, cost, and infrastructure: it’s a premium system, so space, stable bench or stand, and suitable power and HDMI / USB peripherals are required.
  • For some specialised measurement tasks, an external PC + software (e.g. ViPlus) may be needed to fully leverage measurement, annotation, or reporting functions.
8. Which kinds of applications or industries benefit most from using the DRV-Z1?
  • Electronics inspection / repair / rework where 3D depth perception helps with solder joints, fine pitch components.
  • Medical device manufacture, precision engineering, aerospace, where critical tolerances and inspection are required.
  • Prototyping / QC labs where capturing and sharing 3D images / video remotely is beneficial.
  • Use cases with translucent, thin, or reflective samples where transmitted light (sub-stage illumination) and large working distances help in inspection.
