Unicomp AX-8200 PCB X-Ray Inspection Machine

The Unicomp AX-8200 PCB X-ray inspection machine delivers high-resolution X-ray imaging for fast, accurate evaluation of modern electronic assemblies. Engineered for reliability and versatility, it provides exceptional performance in BGA X-ray inspection, as well as analysis of CSP, QFN, Flip Chip, COB, and a broad range of SMT components.

Ideally suited for multiple stages of the PCB manufacturing process, the AX-8200 is a powerful tool for process development, process monitoring, defect analysis, and rework refinement. Its advanced imaging technology enables operators to detect hidden solder defects, voids, bridging, and internal structural issues that cannot be seen through optical inspection.

Supported by an intuitive, operator-friendly software interface, the AX-8200 delivers consistent results across both small-batch and high-volume production environments. This makes it an essential system for manufacturers seeking dependable, non-destructive PCB X-ray inspection with superior image clarity and repeatability.

Testimonials

“…We are very happy with the machine model AX8200 to the point that we recommend it… Sometimes other companies ask to come here and use the machine to help them solve issues and they are impressed with the resources offered by the machine.

We have also conquered some new clients because of this equipment. It gave us an advantage on quality control that was a crucial point for some customers.” José Benedito – SMT Enterplak Brazil

“…All the equipment that was installed during our projects works well and gives us a chance to produce and test our product and raise the quality of assembly.” Aquamarin, St. Petersburg, Russia

FAQs: Your Unicomp AX-8200 PCB X-Ray Inspection Machine Questions Answered

1. What kind of defects / components is the AX-8200 designed to inspect?

The AX-8200 is intended for high-resolution imaging in electronics manufacturing—ideal for BGA (Ball Grid Array), CSP (Chip Scale Package), QFN, Flip Chip, COB, and a broad range of SMT components. It supports process development, monitoring, rework verification, and defect detection under solder joints, etc.

2. What are the X-ray source specifications (voltage, spot size, tube type)?

It uses a sealed tube X-ray source with a maximum voltage of about 90 kV (sometimes spec’d up to 100 kV) and a micro-focus spot size of 5 µm. This allows fine detail imaging such as solder voids.

3. What magnification and detection (inspection) area does the machine provide?

The system supports up to 600× magnification. The maximum loading area is about 510 mm × 420 mm, and the maximum detection (inspection) area is approximately 435 mm × 385 mm.

4. How much tilt / angular flexibility does the AX-8200 offer for inspection?

It allows ± 60° tilting of the X-ray axis / tube or detector (i.e. oblique views), which helps in inspecting angled or hidden solder joints, voids under BGAs, etc.

5. What are the machine size, weight, and footprint / infrastructure requirements?

The AX-8200 has overall dimensions roughly 1080 mm × 1180 mm × 1730 mm (L × W × H) and weighs in the vicinity of 1,050-1,150 kg. It operates on AC 110-220V / 220V power (50/60Hz) with power consumption under about 1.0 kW.

6. What safety standards and radiation emission levels does the AX-8200 comply with?

It features standard radiation safety measures, including sealed tube design, electromagnetic interlock, warning lights, automatic shut-off, and its X-ray leakage is less than 1 µSv/h, complying with international cabinet X-ray safety standards.

7. What software / measurement features are included for defect detection and reporting?

The AX-8200 includes tools such as automatic BGA void measurement, area/void ratio reporting, DXI image-processing, programmed X/Y table motion for multiple image routines, auxiliary measurement tools (distance, angle, diameter, polygon etc.). It also supports report generation.

8. What are some limitations or trade-offs to consider before adopting this machine?

  • While it offers high magnification and detailed imaging, very small or ultra-fine features may still approach the limit of detectability given the 5 µm spot size.
  • Oblique / tilting inspection adds setup and alignment complexity; also slightly reduces throughput compared to straight top-down imaging.
  • Physical size, weight, and cost are considerable; facility must accommodate size, power, and safety infrastructure.
  • The inspection area is large, but for very large multi-panel or fixture-based assemblies beyond its load/detection area, multiple scans or alternative configurations may be needed.
