The Nutek LIFO Vertical Buffer is a compact, SMEMA-compatible PCB buffering system designed for SMT/PCB assembly lines to stabilise production flow between machines. It provides Last-In-First-Out (LIFO) buffering and pass-through modes, uses a soft-touch LED control panel, and features smooth, leadscrew-based width adjustment to handle varying PCB sizes. With a small footprint and built-in upstream protection, it helps prevent line stoppages, supports high-mix manufacturing, and ensures efficient, interruption-free board handling. This makes it ideal for applications requiring reliable mid-line or in-line PCB buffering without occupying significant floor space.

The Nutek LIFO Vertical Buffer is designed to temporarily store and manage PCBs (printed circuit boards) between SMT machines — for example between a pick-and-place machine and a reflow oven, or between reflow and inspection. This buffering helps smooth out flow differences between machines with different cycle times, preventing bottlenecks and improving overall production line efficiency.
The buffer supports a LIFO (“Last In, First Out”) buffering mode and also a pass-through mode. Some vertical buffers in the industry additionally support FIFO (“First In, First Out”) mode — though with this model the emphasis is on LIFO + pass-through to manage PCB flow.
Yes — the unit features adjustable width (via leadscrew or similar mechanism), allowing it to handle a variety of PCB widths. This makes it suitable for mixed product lines where board sizes may vary.
A vertical buffer saves floor space (because boards are stored vertically rather than laid flat), yet provides high-capacity storage. It also helps absorb cycle time mismatches between machines, reduces idle time, balances line flow, and allows downstream machines to catch up without stopping the upstream process — improving throughput and reducing downtime.
Yes — the Nutek vertical buffer is SMEMA-compatible (the standard interface protocol used in many SMT conveyor systems), ensuring it can integrate with other SMT equipment without custom conveyors.
Exactly — that’s one of the core uses. If the downstream machine is occupied, the buffer temporarily stores incoming PCBs. Once the downstream machine is ready, the buffer releases the boards in the chosen mode (e.g. LIFO), enabling continuous upstream operation without stoppage. This reduces line stoppages and helps maintain throughput.
