FAQs: Your Cab Small PCB Separators Maestro 2/2M Series Questions Answered

1. What is the difference between the Maestro 2 and Maestro 2M models?

The Maestro 2 is a manual separator: you feed the PCB by hand between the circular blades to separate PCBs along pre-scored grooves. The Maestro 2M is motorised on the lower circular blade, which “grabs” the board and draws it through. The motorised version reduces operator fatigue and increases throughput.

2. What speed settings are available on the Maestro 2M motorised version?

Maestro 2M offers three separation speeds: 100 mm/s, 200 mm/s, and 300 mm/s.

3. What is the maximum separation (cutting) length these machines support?

Both Maestro 2 and 2M can separate PCBs with a groove length of 15 mm up to 300 mm.

4. What type of blade / separation style do they use, and how are they made durable?

Separation is done with circular blades on both the component side and the solder side. The blades (and guides) are made of special steel and titanium-coated for long service life.

5. What materials and PCB specifications are supported?
  • Board material: FR4 (standard printed circuit board material).
  • Component height allowance up to ~ 34 mm on both component and solder side.
  • PCB thickness (pre-scored groove), typical board thickness range and minimal residual material at groove depend on scoring. (For example, minimal groove depth of ~0.25 mm for thin boards)
6. What are the physical dimensions, weight, power requirements, and environmental conditions?
  • Dimensions: approx. H 330 × W 195 × D 620 mm
  • Weight: 16 kg for Maestro 2, 19 kg for Maestro 2M.
  • Power: operating on 240 VAC, 50 Hz (or 110 VAC, 60 Hz depending on region) for the motorised version; the manual version doesn’t require motor power but still needs the system for blade guards etc.
  • Operating temperature / humidity: +5°C to +40°C, with non-condensing humidity 10-85%; storage and transport ranges are broader.
7. How is safe and precise separation ensured, especially around pre-scored grooves?

Several features help:

  • The clearance between upper and lower guides is adjustable so the PCB can only be fed into the blades along the pre-scored groove. This ensures the PCB doesn’t shift and gets separated cleanly.
  • Blade height / upper blade adjustment is possible to match board thickness / groove depth, reducing stress on edges/components.
  • Overload protection (on motorised version) to guard against jamming, cutting outside grooves, etc.
8. What trade-offs or limitations should be considered?
  • These separators only work for pre-scored / pre-grooved PCB panels; boards without grooves or with inconsistent scoring may not separate cleanly or might damage the machine or PCB.
  • For very thick boards, or boards with tall components near the groove, blade and clearance settings must be carefully adjusted to avoid hitting components.
  • The manual version (Maestro 2) requires more operator effort, which could reduce throughput for large batch volumes.
  • Blade wear will affect cut quality; titanium coating helps extend life, but periodic blade inspection / replacement is needed. Also guide surfaces must be maintained.
